I went down a John Wetton rabbit-hole on youtube the other night, and now I can't get this gem from UK's swan song out of my head:

I couldn't get this out of my head for that entirety of last week. Thought I was going crazy.

Keane, Somewhere Only We Know, for sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oextk-If8HQ

Plus various cello pieces.

And the finale to Stravinsky's Firebird. That'll wake you up in the morning if anything will. Go to 7:40 on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WsqK1mCGeY
Or go to 1:00 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-OBzD5Es4c

Flashback. In the early to mid '70s Yes used it for their intro. And still do, on occasion. From their triple (!) live album, Yessongs.

I'm not a classical music aficionado, but I do (did, pre-pandemic) go to the symphony sometimes for a concerto or whatever sounded good.

I had tickets for a show the Friday after 9/11. As you might imagine the program was somewhat altered, and there were often a lot of wet eyes in the house. I can't remember the piece they opened with, but it was very moving, very short, and I ran home to find out more about it. It might have been Elgar's Nimrod.

I thought I'd just melt into a puddle a few times during that concert.

I was helping an acquaintance on another forum understand the concept of a "standard" (or, a "warhorse") in a composer's repertoire by showing him how many different recordings of his composition "Strange Meeting" Bill Frisell has released, and of course now that tune is completely stuck in my head!

Here are just a few examples:

Reverend KM Williams and Washboard Jackson. Sadly, KM had a stroke a few years ago and hasn't been the same since. But I had some really good times listening to KM, with and without Washboard. He can (could) really play a homemade one string cigar box style guitar. With a slide. I think I see a second string in the video, but only one tuning peg. I wish him well.

In his own words.

Attached are a few images I shot of show they did outside of Wade's Barber Shop in Clarksdale, MS.
