I still have a couple of bikes with Shimano 9-speed they work just fine for me. With the lack of hills around here, the extra 1-3 gears aren't needed.

I don't get the logic. I am running a 9-speed 11-34 cluster (11 - 13 - 15 - 17 - 20 - 23 - 26 - 30 - 34) in the back and it has served me well around here in our hilly rides as well as D2R2. If I ever get the chance to get to France to ride in the Alps, I will have no qualms at all to use the same setup.

Spent a nice weekend going up and down (and up and down and up and down) the hills on the Yamaguchi. The combination of quality steel with 28 Vittorias is wonderful, and the weather was just as good.

And the poppies are starting to pop!
