I’m thinking of taking it back to how I originally built it.

I have this old lady undergoing modernization. I know it will not be ethologically correct, but the next step will give a Sram RED 10 speed.

My friend, you need to meet Soma Highway One bars.

I do like those. I have a set on my old (1988) Trek road bike, but I’ve got the old drop shape on a Nashbar steel touring frame. I can’t find a way to like the old shape.

Are the Soma Highway One bars measured center to center, or outside to outside?

Center to center. And no flare, so they feel wiiiide at the hoods.

I personally have always really gotten along really well with those old-school bars that slope down to the brake hoods. I feel like it puts the palms of my hands in a really natural position on the bike, with much less stress on my shoulders and triceps. Much more natural than modern flat-top bars, or however you want to call it.

But I have bikes with both styles and I make them work!

My dad's late 90's Pinarello Traviso CX restored

I spent a lot of time and effort getting this thing back in pristine condition and I'm so happy with the all-road dream it turned into. I put a lot into hand-painting the worn-off logos and sourcing the silver 11-speed Athena to keep it modern, but true to the era. The same goes for all the polished Paul Components. Maybe not the "right" choice, but I like that it has some American muscle in it too. The HED Belgium+, T11 hubs, and 35mm Rene Herse with latex tubes are the icing on the cake.

I don't ride it every day, but it's always a dream.
