Oh wow. He was so great, and from my area. He wrote Sunflower River Blues, which is a river I've been to several times.

Sure wish I had seen him at any time during his career.

Song of the day! New Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd have reunited for a one-off charity single to raise money for Ukrainians affected by Russia’s invasion. “Hey, Hey, Rise Up” features vocals by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band, Boombox, who recorded himself in full military gear singing the folk song, “The Red Viburnum in the Meadow,” to the empty streets in Kyiv’s Sofiyskaya Square.

I want to say Takoma Park, but I'm not sure. Close enough, especially since I went to the Takoma Park Baptist church as a child. My most vivid memory is of the fantastic oak trees which arced across the road from both sides, creating a wonderful canopy. And, of course, all of the acorns on the ground.

But that was a long, long time ago.

Takoma Park is sometimes spelled as Tacoma Park. Not sure which is official in this case. IIRC it was the first place (jurisdiction? town?) in the United States to declare itself a nuclear free zone.

And yes, many thanks to 12XU for posting that.

I really wish Google hadn't reduced the quality of the videos when they bought youtube. Anywho, with instruments from the Eastern Europe, North Africa... bodhran, hurdy gurdy... The Battle of Evermore.

Yes. I know nothing about where it came from or anything, but I think it sounds really cool. Seems to be a cross between an accordion and a violin, with a crank for... something. Maybe running something over the strings to cause them to vibrate.

With the wide range of folks here on Paceline, I wouldn't be surprised if someone here plays one and can provide more info.

Le Vent du Nord (The North Wind), who I've seen a couple of times, uses one in their music, and I'm pretty sure that the hurdy gurdy didn't originate in Canada, and certainly not in Quebec. Somewhere in Europe, I think.
