Out on a road trip to Death Valley and the Eastern Sierra last week. Getting ready for Eroica California, so I brought the semi-vintage bike.
The Whitney Portal road was closed to cars, so I parked the car at the Alabama Hills and headed up. About 4000' of climb and descent, 1:54 up and :16 down. (!) The right-hand high peak on the horizon is Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 states at 14,496'. |

Went on an out-the-door bikepacking expedition on my Trail Donkey. Day one was 62 mile (about half dirt) and 6,000 feet of climbing to Pine Valley, CA. Day 2 was scheduled to hit Julian and the Anza Borrego desert but ended with a coffee shop fall rear derailleur fail. Still a fun exploration.

Yes. I rode a modified version of the medium course of the Oregon Gravel Grinder. Fresh gravel on Three Creeks Lake Road!

Some days it's pretty simple- some ride buddies, blue skies, light puffy clouds, ultra low traffic roads to start then amazing gravel to finish with rolling hills in between. Wasco County, Oregon

55 mile dirt/gravel in Putnam Ctty with my teenager
He rode my Bridgestone and - what are teens for? Carrying the gear! - carried our lunch in the pannier. He was kind of interested in cycling this morning, and after climbing hills all day, this evening asked if he can do D2R2 with me this summer. That, after 4200 feet of climbing today....

I offered to let isaac wear one of my jerseys, and he weirdly insisted on wearing his own, which he outgrew in a four-inch growth spurt this year. This is the same kid with a blue streak in his hair (I approve!). |
