I found this (says "road hybrid" on the stem and has offroad geometry) Performance Parabola 21sp bike at Goodwill, actually two of them, for $40 each, I handed the cashier a $100 bill and told her to put $20 to a donation.
I sold the bigger one and kept this one for myself, used it as a spare CX bike for a few of the muddiest races (the few that were muddy, this being Sacramento).
With Tange Infinity tubing, 38c tires and Shimano CX500 triple component group it's no lightweight, but really does cover any mileage/terrain in confident comfort.

This reminds me of how the station wagon has been replaced by the SUV. Can't beat that for $40. A new set of tires will cost more than the whole bike.

Thanks!
You don't need a compact crankset or a new chain, just get a 34T small ring and swap out the 36T. Done. And way cheaper.

Swapped out parts this winter to this Space Horse disc. Dusted off an old set of Stan's and added hydro discs. Mix-n-match...

Not purely a gravel bike, but I've been riding this thing everywhere. Going to bomb Repack on Saturday in a nod to our "founding fathers".
