For those who have stuck with this thread (there's like 5 of us, right?) you'll know what high regard I hold Roger Goodell (haha, NOT!).
Well, this whole Ezekiel Elliot situation is just another example of the NFL (and the commissioner's) total incompetence (and credibility) when it comes to governance and disciplinary action, and a code of conduct. Oh yeah, and here's another domestic abuse suspension... You literally cannot make this stuff up. It is a system that makes some dictatorships seem like well run governments, by comparison. Their revenue last year was $13B. The GDP (yes, I know not the same thing as revenue) of Nicaragua is forecast to be about $13B this year, for reference. Quote:

My theory is, Roger is using his power to make it more of a bargaining chip in the next collective bargaining agreement. I think he, and the owners, know the current disciplinary system is flawed and frankly, a headache. Having an independent arbitrator decide punishments cleans everyone's hands of the mess and bad press. But the owners aren't giving that power away for nothing. So Roger is making it feel worse to players so the players will give up more to change it in the next CBA. The owners want to get the max for something they don't really care about anyway. They're trying to play the players. Again. Hope the players hold strong. For once. For something important, like guaranteed contracts.

Yes, it is ridiculous how things are handled WRT personal conduct in the NFL. The policy is very flawed. That said, if people have a problem with the policy and inconsistency maybe they should look in the mirror and assess their personal conduct. It seems that 99% of the players aren't getting in trouble. The 1% are causing all the issues.
Also, playing in the NFL isn't a right, it's a privilege. Just like working for any other business. |

Bill trades Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49er's for their second round pick next year.
I thought he was the future, I guess not. Jamie Collins has 0 wins this year, haha. so maybe this is some kind of punishment for Jimmy being unwilling to sign a new contract

Rumors are Brian Hoyer is going to be the backup until the end of the year and then they will draft the next TB12 again....
Hoyer led the 12-4 season the year Brady got his knee bashed in. He’s not Jimmy but he could be adequate. If Jacoby Brissette work out OK for Indy that will be 2 starters the Pats have given away pretty cheap. I bet the Browns are now wishing they gave up the first and another pick for Jimmy G last summer. BK

Nope - it was Hoyer as part of the package from the 49’s.
Compensatory pick killed that part of the deal and then the 49’s cut him. He is now free to sign with anyone. Rumors floating around that the Pats might work out Kapaernik but I doubt B.B. would put up with that distraction. BK
