Thanks for letting me know

If fan behavior were a criterion for me, I'd route against Germany in the upcoming WC, given their obnoxious and stupid booing of Cucurella.

It will be interesting to see what Southgate does now. I cannot imagine he stays.

For all that talent, England looked overmatched at times. Really struggled for possession.

Pickford played well, other than some distribution issues when forcing play.

(Arg/Col) - Were there refs on the pitch? I don't recall seeing any

Spain won the 2008 Euros, the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euros.
Argentina won 2021 Copa, the 2022 WC and now 2024 Copa.
Any others?

Brazil won the World Cup in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Discussion about the all-time greatest team run over.

England -- the sum is considerably less than than the parts. A lot of great individual players, an average TEAM.

Messi coming off injured, then the team winning the Copa is eerily similar to Portugal winning the Euros after Ronaldo was forced off with knee injury in the final.

I'm glad for the Argentina result.
Colombia will be a strong contender in 2026.

Glad that Spain got the W.
Mitigates all my English co-workers from gloating about "it's coming home"

100% agree.

A few decisions just really get me...
- Continuing the play Kane even though he's clearly out of form or possibly injured. Especially while not giving him a clear partner.
- The reluctance to make pro-active substitutions and instead waiting to go down a goal before making a change.

I'm also a Liverpool partisan, but still... not being able to find a system that has Trent in it is baffling to me. But he couldn't find any system so... I hope he goes, and they get a manager willing to play modern football, in a way that suits their players. Eddie Howe, Brandon Rogers even.... they won't though.

Colombia v Argentina was so much more fun to watch. Gutted for Colombia.

Also what a shame with the crowd situation though. This keeps happening all over the world and it's ridiculous. Again the Liverpool fan in me knows all too well what can happen when poor event management can lead to tragedy. Glad that is seems (for the most part) the fans got mostly unscathed.

Brazil has 5 stars - Italy 4 (1934, 1938, 1982, 2006).

But I was referring to Spain and Argentina's WC wins sandwiched between Cups.

Germany comes close 1972 Euro - 1974 WC - 1980 Euro
They also have 4 WC along with Italy

They need someone a bit less beholden to the stalwarts.

Kane and Foden were mediocre at best, and not once did Southgate start them on the bench. Bellingham was slightly better but my was he petulant the way you expect a RM player to be.

But at least Maguire is no longer a starting CB on that squad. They also need a RB replacement (although 3 ATB with Stones being one of the three might not be a bad idea).

The following might be a decent set-up.

-----------------Pickford-------------
Branthwaite---Stones---Guehi---
Saka/TAA-----Rice-----Mainoo-----Shaw
----Parmer-----Watkins-----Gordon

As much as I like TAA, he just doesn't seem to be switched on enough for a midfielder. Even Saka has a bit more awareness in comparison.

Southgate resigned, Berhalter got fired. Two openings for an English speaking manager. Let me guess which one is more appealing to potential candidates (eye roll)............
