Tedeschi Trucks Band doing an old Derek and the Dominos tune (with a Delaney and Bonnie vibe): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h0kXfPrHHcw
Had no idea this was four years old, and that they had done other Dominos tunes. Now I see they have a new Layla Revisited CD out. Will have to do some shopping. |

Caitlin Canty, covering Neil Young's Unknown Legend. I think that Jeffrey Foucault (sp?) is on the left with guitar and backing vocals.
She's married to Noam Pikelny of the Punch Brothers. Studio version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV60zL82uYY Live version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sgJpRd5-pM

Recently found myself getting hooked on 90s-early 2000s hip hop. Outkast, Mos Def, Biggie, the usual stuff of that era.

I bounce around quite a bit, right now I'm trying to build up my vinyl collection, and only buy vinyl that was recorded on analog equipment. Today's vinyl is actually way better then it was in the 60's and 70's, the recording on a new album the back ground noise is stone quiet! Not sure what they're doing differently it could just simply be more updated electronics and recording equipment.
If you really want the best of the best in sound, then buy a high end reel to reel tape machine and buy prerecorded music on a reel, this stuff blows away vinyl and CD by a mile. My friend has an older 70's era reel to reel and he bought a prerecorded album of some jazz singer I can't remember her name, he had vinyl and a CD of her already doing the same music, but he wanted to hear the difference, and he played it for me one night and A/B all 3 back and forth, well it only took one time hearing the tape and it was indeed far superior, everything sounded natural and clear like you were listening to the original master recording. I'm not going to buy into the reel to reel for the simple reason the reel to reel machine that has been gone through and rebuilt are expensive, plus prerecorded tapes are going for almost $500 EACH!! But if you're a real audiophile and don't mind spending that kind of money for each recording and don't have it now you're missing a lot, the other problem with prerecorded reel to reel is that it's just now starting to come out, and the selection of prerecorded tapes is quite slim, |

I know it's only Thursday, but can we start early?
The Jelly Roll Kings - Big Jack Johnson, Frank Frost, Sam Carr. They're all dead now. I brought Jack up here a couple of times, and, yeah, he crushed it. When the three played together they went by The Jelly Roll Kings (let your mind wander - it's not like the image in the video). I met Jack several times, here, at his house in Mississippi, and a couple of festivals down there. I met Sam once or twice, very briefly. Frank died before I started going down there. This should be played at 11, maybe 10. Definitely no lower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gBKfdnmuNw

On a similar note, the Blackpot Festival is great. Lafayette, Louisiana, in south central Louisiana. Cajun country. The Atchafalaya. And so on. The location has changed, but it's still great. Both Courtney and Wilson of the Pine Leaf Boys (great, great band) are in there at various points. There are multiple (small) stages, lots of jams, and yes, a cooking contest. All entries must be cooked in a chaudiere noir - a black pot. A cast iron black pot. Blackpot jam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ5dde2FNHo Pine Leaf Boys. The sound isn't very good, but hopefully you get the idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlgPVMtv1rA The U.S. Department of State has sent them overseas as part of cultural exchanges. How 'bout some Ubekistan? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZJzGUsmVT8

Ma mama said, "Boy, don't you know you can't yodel like those white folks?"
I said, "Yessa mama, but I'm a big boy now!" "I can yodel just like mister Gene Autry!"

Jack White's SNL performance of Ball and Biscuit last year. Possibly the best musical performance in all of SNL's history?
