So I own a 2000's Seamaster that I absolutely love. I wore it daily with pride. It felt good. And I felt good wearing it.

6 months ago I purchased an Apple Watch. I haven't worn the Omega since.

This morning I open this thread and I think to myself "I am going to wear my Omega today." Two seconds later I come to my senses. " I can't wear the Omega, I have to close my rings."

Damn, Apple got me addicted to data. Is there a pill for that?

I remember when TinTins were selling for less than stock Speedy Pros. Oh how the times have changed!

But if you like the TinTin aesthetic and don't want to shell out the big bucks take a look at some of the Schumacher special edition Omegas - which should also be your cup of tea since you mentioned in a previous thread an affinity for F1. Not as revered a movement, but still very wearable and roughly 1/3 to 1/4 the price:

I remember seeing the speedmasters with the orange and dark red colors before, they are handsome.

In the same way that I feel a little strange wearing a dive watch I think I might feel strange wearing a watch that helps me calculate fuel burn or range or whatever that ring does on speedmasters.

I could probably get over it though.

I still aim to own one of Sinn’s ludicrously overengineered “German submarine steel” divers one of these days, but a 556 recently came into my life and I’m really liking it a lot. Crazy accurate (l+/- 1-2 seconds a day), great weight and finish and its dial is modeled after Sinn’s own cockpit clock from the early 60s. A great, road-less-travelled alternative to a Rolex Explorer IMO.

The ring on the Speedmasters lets you calculate the number of times per hour something will happen, based on the time it takes for it to happen once.

If you look at 6 o'clock there's a 120. So, if something takes 30 seconds to happen once, it will happen 120 times in an hour.

The fuel calculations are the slide rule bezels, like on a Breitling Navitimer

I have no real need for either function. But, I think the slide rule is cool, and have a Citizen with a similar feature.

My first "real" watch was a 656. such a good watch.

I have a U1 and it is an impressive hunk of steel. I'm amazed at how it has zero sign of wear after so many years of abuse.

I tried to helmut Sinn at his factory outside of Frankfurt in 2016, just a few years before his death. (He went home early that day and I missed him by just a few minutes) Such an impressive designer of aviation and dive watches. His small shop was tiny and rebranded as guinand, but his influence was still there and his designs are legendary.

Totally agree—very special brand and one of the few with a singular recognizable name behind it. Shame you missed him!

I’ve had the U1 on my radar for about 10 years. I’ve only resisted because it’s a tough one to ‘dress up’, but the right deal will come around eventually. (The smaller U50 is pretty enticing for solving that bulk conundrum.)

I visited the Sinn shop in Frankfurt a few years ago. Suffice to say, my marriage was lucky I didn’t have a spare $4K floating around in my wallet.

After fifteen years, my U1 shows absolutely no sign of wear (band and buckle yes, actual watch, no) and it was a daily wearer for all that time. Freaking amazing.

Was going to buy a Sinn 556 but spotted this and changed my mind. Small family operation called Muhle Glasshutte. This is a variant of their Terrasport series that was made for Lufthansa.
