Zwift 100 miler...yikes
I had a long Sat training ride planned...then the weather turned South. So out of spite (and impulsively) decided I was going to do 100 miles on Zwift with a Wahoo Kickr smart trainer. Previous long ride on Zwift was 50 miles. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...in fact I kind of enjoyed it. I have it hooked up to an old 50" plasma so its far more engaging and realistic than it would be on an iPad. It was odd to do some of the same logistical prep for an indoor ride I normally do for a training ride. I had a good Kindle book for the first 20 miles of fairly easy pace, with plus lots of good music on tap. I kept it in Zone 2 for the first 65 miles, then 20 miles with lots of elevation (6000' feet or so), then surprisingly felt pretty good and drilled it the last 15 miles. Not sure how soon I'll try this again, but I'm a Zwift believer! Of course I'll take an outdoor ride over an indoor ride every time but its nice to have an indoor option when weather doesn't agree with you...that isn't miserable like a traditional trainer setup was for me in the past.
For those of you that care: Wattopia doesn't have 100 miles of roads. I took every route and climb possible...seems like I was around 70 miles before I started to go over the same roads again. Pretty cool that's even an option! At the end of the day I ended up at 107 miles / 7000' elevation. When I hit 100 miles I was around 6500' and I couldn't NOT push for an even 7000' :-) My legs were done so I just went back and forth over a 3 mile stretch with rollers. Yes, that probably qualifies as a little bit crazy-OCD-weird **The Biofreeze is just an ultra-nice version of icy hot that I was using for a shoulder strain...the KT tape I use off-season when I ramp up miles to avoid inflammation due to patellar tracking issues. The Tuf-skin is a spray that helps the KT tape stay put - for some reason when I sweat the KT tape starts to come up over the course of a long ride...other people don't have this problem. The spray keeps it on and actually doubles the life of one application. **The Lion of Flanders flag has all the signatures of the 2017 Tour De France BMC pro team. Its nice to have it hanging close by for motivation :-) Last edited by Wayne77; 01-23-2018 at 08:40 PM. |

107 on a trainer?!!! Crazy. I have a hard time doing 25. Probably why my belt is tighter this time of year. Congrats. That's dedication for sure.
