And was Fripp smiling? I'm so confused... Seen them in concert a bunch going back to the 90s and I don't think I ever saw that, though it's fun to see him almost not make it through saying "Toyah and Robert's Sunday Lockdown Lunch" in those videos. |

Right this very second I have a new album, well new to me, playing on the turntable, it's Jimi Hendrix Live at Experience Monterey. I have studio recordings of this same stuff, but his live stuff went more over the edge with the guitar, my god that man was masterful, too bad he left this earth so early, kind of makes me wonder what he would be playing today, or would he have faded mostly away like Santana? I kind of think Jimi could have kept going and got even better...as if that would even be possible! But he liked to experiment, in fact, most of you don't know that when he was at Woodstock and did the Star-Spangled Banner he laid that down live having NEVER practiced it before going live with it, he was experimenting with making missile noises and bombs exploding that he never did before and freaking nailed it on the first try! What a genius.

I've been on a modern Cuban music kick recently, so here's some things that may pique some interest.
Cimafunk ft. The Soul Rebels and Tarriona Ball - Caliente :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGa8g5dj5HM Think a young, Cuban James Brown and you'll be in the ballpark. Daymé Arocena - La Rumba Me Lllamo Yo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvyTWRB4l4w Difficult to pin a label on, a mix of traditional rumba, jazz, and salsa. Highly recommend. |
