I traded parts for the frame and fork and had the rest of the parts leftover when I sold my Cross Check to a fellow Paceliner. Sweet old English lugged steel Condor with an IF fork.

I've used my CX bike for dirt roads but I can't that say I'm totally happy with it. The higher BB makes it feel somewhat odd IMO.....like I'm riding 'on top' of it rather than 'in' it. Strange as it may be it doesn't feel the same way on pavement.
I'd been toying with getting something purpose built but hadn't committed myself. After 3 days at NAHBS and more than one conversation with Steve H., I was only home for a couple of days before I sent him my measurements. I'll have a Strada Bianca this summer that will have direct mount Paul Racer M brakes. In the meantime, here's a pic of the CX....full lugs and Zero Uno tubing.

A great thread. I agree that almost any bike with adequate clearance will do. That's part of the fun. Here are mine that have seen gravel grinder duty. Oh, and I just built up a Surly CC (I like Surly bikes) as my GG SS.
1989 Haro Extreme SS 1988 Fisher Procaliber 1991 Bridgestone RB-T with 38mm tires. 1994 Russian Ti frame made from old MIGs and Subs on SRP Canal Trail. 2000 Litespeed Appalachian with 38's. 1989 Trek 660 Single Speed with CX Tires 1990 Cannondale ST-600. This bike has great GG potential. Last edited by RFC; 03-15-2013 at 05:09 PM. |

This would be perfect as well for a custom with a not over the top budget. I never rode this model, but it has a following for sure.

Another one, though it does not compare to most of these fine machines:

In on the act
Just posted these on the Steve Potts gallery thread but thought I'd get in on the act over here.
