The excellent discounts are because they're clearing stocks of the remaining 2014 cars. There are many fewer 2.5Ls because TDIs outsold the 2.5L by around 10:1. The gas versions were much less common, and now that they're moving out the last remaining stock they are even more rare. I bought one (2014, TDI & DSG) on Feb 20. At that time there were, according to autotrader or cars.com, around 150 new JSW TDIs in the Metro Washington area, and 2 of the 2.5L.

Wife's in sales and put on 20K miles a year. Normally we bought a new car ever 50K has for a used car that was about limit before price dropped a lot if trading in on another new car. We have avoided buying 7 new cars
And the feds let you deduct on your IRS Taxes $.57 for each mile driven in that year So for 2015 21,500 miles x .57 = $12,255.00 deduction
We seldom pay Federal taxes It wouldn't be that big a savings on taxes if you factored in a new car ever three years but on to 400K

The good news for diesel owners in San Diego is that it costs about $3.05 gallon vs. $3.40 for regular which has gone up $1 or so in the past few weeks. Some of the rise may be due to the refinery fire in SoCal and switching over to the "summer blend" required by local/state government rules which costs more to refine. Or so I read.

That's groovy but even tho higher than gas, Diesel is now about $2.50 around here.
