It got to the point I worked with my guitar teacher to transcribe a couple of the songs off the album and learned pretty much all the guitar parts.

They are normally semi-Americana (which is a great style) but this album is a mash-up of dire straits, grateful dead, and pink floyd. It's got an 80s sound with a lot of the chugging 16th note rhythms that sound like some of the tunes off the "Brothers in Arms" album by Dire Straits but then the lead singer layers extra rhythm guitar riffs and sparse soling on top.. the extra rhythm parts can be slightly reminescent of Bob Weir but cut down, and some of the solo stuff is an homage to Gilmour or Knopfler.. none of it is fingerpicked though so it's not really that close to Dire Straits. It's probably easiest to hear the Pink Floyd influences.

It's worth checking out if you can still appreciate 80s style sounds.

And now I'm off learning Dire Straits stuff...
Interesting and yeah I definitely hear the Dire Straits influence.

Don't miss them if they come by your town. It's pure classic rock and role party every time.

Excellent song, and an excellent album. Sonically it is one of my very favorites to listen to.

Somewhere I have an original album from the '80's.

Thanks for the reminder

I don't believe in the existence of angels

Into My Arms live from Distant Sky. Nick Cave rocks and he doesn't.

I listen to this album quite often, something about this tune always makes me think of Beck's "Loser" when I hear it.

Three personal Loser facts.

It was a huge hit in LA in 1993, months before it was officially released and seen on MTV. I was in 7th grade and the station my older brother listened to would play it every morning. Such an odd song. I thought I was listening to something borderline obscene and dangerous.

Last year I first realized the hook is from my favorite Allman Brothers tune.

In college, a kid from France was playing something that sounded like Loser but was actually a guy called MC 900 FT Jesus.
