I'm still curious about the endurance casing on the RH tires. I will be in the market for a 38mm road tire in the not too distant future, I may just have to buy a set and give them a try. Thanks, Chris |

While its not a road tire, I've been really impressed with the 40mm conti terra speeds on the road - especially in the wet.

Installing these tomorrow in preparation for some dirt forest service road riding when I return to AZ (Alpine) Saturday! Looking forward to seeing how they perform.

I've found that running them lower on pressure unlocks a bit of extra speed and grip with them too. |

FWIW, the different RH options are essentially the same tread-wise; the difference is in sidewall thickness/suppleness. So if you’re using tubes and will not be encountering a lot of sharp rocks, Extralight is probably your ticket.
Also FWIW, all of my gravel riding and racing (of all sorts of types of gravel) has been on Extralights; my only flat was on a canal towpath (go figure).

What would be different than RH extra light and Pari-Moto's for lot less $$?

They’re different tires; what’s the difference between X tire and Y tire? (shrug)
RHs aren’t white-labeled GKs

I have… and I came away certain that they were the same: to my legs they felt the same, behaved/performed the same, both were incredibly supple, incredibly fast ‘feeling’, and both flatted with the utmost ease. But we’ll never really know, will we? Unless you trust Jan. And if you do, I might have a lunch box I could sell you! You can strap it to the front your aero bike and, not only will it keep your beers cold, it will lower your cDa soooo much that you’ll actually be able to coast up the Tourmalet! Yours for the low price of $199, (but only for the test prototypes which still have the Igloo branding) Last edited by HowardCosellsPR; 07-16-2024 at 08:35 AM. |

But I do have a wheelset set up with extralight 650B 47 mm RH tires and another wheelset with 650B 42 mm Pari-Motos mounted up. Both with tubes… my wheels sit for several months in the wintertime and I’m not ready to start adding sealant regularly, maybe have to peel the dried sealant blobs out, blah, blah, blah. My take? On the look-see before installation the RH’s seem to have a thicker mid-tread area and slightly thinner sidewalls. I’ve had a distinctly different, more positive experience with flats. As in none so far with about 1500 miles of riding in. Guess I’m just lucky. One place I would agree with the OP on, though. This part: Quote:

umtanum ridge 55x650b endurance casing
mounting and seating on various rims was very easy with floor pump, used stans sealant and everything has been flawless -- I truly love these snoqualmie pass 44x700 extralights Most difficult tire to get over rim ive ever had, but did it. Seating also required a pressurized system. Sidewalls leaked orange endurance but eventually sealed. After first week needed to top off sealant already. Used stans. 2 months later everything seems set. Very nice supple tire but need time to assess how they fare with punctures. switchback hill 48x650b extralights These are my newest and I'll update this when I have more info, but they were moderately hard to mount on nox rims but nothing like the snoqualmies. Seated with floor pump and didn't have nearly as much sidewall leakage. Seem to be leaking more air overnight than other tires so will assess and report back. |

Clearly, I'm kidding around... mostly.
One thing for those who run Parimotos: There have been at least three rather distinct iterations of the tire, and it's never really been clear to me which is which. Some are WAYYYYYYYY more fragile (and supple). Some seem to be much more similar to GKs. I remember weighing different ones and the range was like 275g to 350g. Who knows... though. But... it's been at least three years since I've even seen one. I had a rapid deflation event and decided that I like my bones more than I like the feel of the parimoto/gk/rh tires when tubeless. And... I ain't giving up tubeless. In the end, roll what makes you happy and keeps you healthy. |
