I ended up with this, it handles real off-roading now (with it's much-fatter new tires) and doesn't perform great but the minimalist front suspension is at times very much appreciated. Mainly though, it's a bike that I can lock up, walk away from, and not have to worry about!
As they say, horses for courses. It looks like the right tool for the job!
