These cranks are hard anodized right? Do we worry about corrosion and or durability issues or is that already addressed?

I do love a winter project. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

I refinished a set of Eames aluminum group chair bases last year. Lots of #0000 steel wool action. My left arm hasn't been that tired since I was 14.

Shimano does but unless you live at the beach does it matter?

I completely agree. It's why I'm still using 9 speed Ultegra (and also because it just keeps on working)

I've used oven cleaner to strip Ciamillo brakes to raw ti without any ill effects.
I've also stripped the clear off of Campy stuff to polish (its not anno), and the occasional cleaning with Mothers polish keeps it looking awesome-if you're worried, you can polish and then re-clear, but the clear requires eventual replacement unless its clear ano.

I have heard shimano doesnt love the idea of this, maybe because of the corrosion and splitting apart issues with their road cranks. I wouldnt worry though.
Not recommended unless you know what you are doing...
Lye will etch the aluminum, that's why it comes out of the solution with a matte finish. It will also decorate alloying precipitates. NaOH etch is commonly used to soften tool marks on aluminum and give a matte finish before heat treating

I have no idea what I'm doing and I've had no problems with my dropper post, stems, chainrings, cranksets, etc.
