OT: RIP Roy Haynes, all-time great jazz drummer

I just listened again to one of his many great recordings, "Bouncing with Bud": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t5gbhk4l7k.

Here's a great drum solo with the Stan Getz Quartet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBeBnnqpOcs.

Roy played on more milestone recordings in any decade of his career than most musicians do in their entire lifetimes. RIP.

I had the privilege to see him perform live in NYC back in, oh, 2015-2016, somewhere around there. A treasured memory. Wallace Roney sat in with him and his band for a few tunes to play from Miles' 1960s book. Both now passed away. RIP.

It has not been a good time for Jazz Super Heroes.

Lou Donaldson and the last surviving participant in "A Great Day In Harlem", Benny Golson also recently passed.

Sonny Rollins is one of the remaining icons.

Roy was a legend whose unparalleled career started with the beginning of Be Bop when he played and recorded with Bird, Bud Powell, Miles and Monk. He played on many seminal and historical records with moderns through the decades such as Eric Dolphy, Sonny Rollins, Trane, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny and many more.

A less known recording, "We Three", with Phineas Newborn and Paul Chambers, has long been one of my favorites.
