Accident during a test drive is at least not as bad as the mechanics crash your car while it is in for service. That happened to my wife.

Better make sure my wife doesn’t see this.

She really hates driving my car, 2017 4 Motion with the six speed manual transmission. Even galls her more that the car gets 38-40 mpg on the highway at 75 mph, which sometimes surpasses her Prius V. The VW doesn’t do nearly as well in urban use, however.

Had some interest in replacing it with a Buzz (actually have a deposit down) but just not feeling it for a full size minivan right now… and that’s the only variant available here.

So it’ll probably stick around until the right EV or EV/hybrid comes along.

cast a wide net and check it every day - might need to fly in or ship the car that is the right one.

Any reason you wouldn't look at the ID.4?

If my Outback seized the engine today I'd probably buy an ID.4 tomorrow.

The software on the 2024s is much more responsive, no different than the Buzz.

I would love to have a Buzz... but they are so expensive, they're going to be so hard to get I'd imagine, and they are just bigger than I/we need.

The ID.4 is right in the goldilocks zone IMO... it is bigger than the Mach E on the inside (though not as fun) and it's not as weird as the Model Y. IIRC it has a good factory hitch and it ticks off a lot of practical boxes. The one I test drove had really good trunk/floor/seatback protectors great for putting a bike in the back and not destroying the interior.

The only real thing is if/when VW gets access to superchargers if that hasn't already happened. But for me realistically that is something that matters like 2-3 times a year. And then if you think the ID.4 is too bland or something. It certainly doesn't have the cool factor of the Buzz.

If someone says to me VWs aren't reliable or something I'd counter with the fact I live walking distance to a VW dealer. A VW needing maintenance is vastly less painful than almost any other brand for me if I can't take it to the local independent place next door to the VW dealer.

Probably because then you'd have to look at an ID4

The new Toyota Crown Signia is a hybrid that could almost pass for a wagon. Certainly more pleasing to look at as compared to that monstrosity known as the Highlander.

We were recently picked up in one of these for an airport Uber ride. Wife and I were very impressed and trying to figure out what exactly it was, haha.

Actually test drove one a year or more back when I put down the Buzz deposit.
I liked it but not enough to buy one, and at that time there were a lot of gripes about the software and such.

And that Toyota… pretty cool but the styling just doesn’t do much for me.

I won’t get into politics, but seems very possible the financial incentive to go EV may go away… guess we’ll see how much pull Musk has.

Nice to own a car that’s in demand, at least to some degree. For the time being no rush to change.

I'd love a new car, but the
  • 2013 BMW 328i convertible (36k miles)
  • 2017 VW Golf Alltrack (50k)
  • 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio (70k)
are all paid for.

Those listings still relatively good value but are priced right about at what I paid for mine new in 2018. I tested the mt and ended up buying the auto. It's been a super solid car (touching wood as I say this) at 65k on the odo. The new Toyota above is 2x that.

EV or EV/Hybrid SportWagen? No such animal and VW has no plans to make another wagen. They are all in on small 'SUVs'..like Tiguan, Taos and even a big one..

shame, I really loved my 2014 Jetta SportWagen diesel(adios-Diesel-gate...they gave me more than I paid for it)...and my present 2017 gas 4-Motion Golf SW...DSG...
