So, the riding out near Gilbertsville is actually pretty nice but there's not an easy way to get there from NYC. The good news is that you could take the Schuylkill River trail (a rails to trails mup) from Center City Philly to just below Pottstown, jump off there and take overland routes the remaining 10 mi or so to Gilbertsville. Lots of nice local riding to the west of Gilbertsville out near Oley.
