Apple AirPods for riding maybe?
I finally decided to give the Apple air pods a chance and I'm considering riding with them or trying the idea out. A few years ago I read about people losing them on rides. Anyone have experience with them? I decided to go with the Pro 2 model for I thought they would be less likely to fly out compared to the new model.

They stay in pretty decently if you spend the time to try different tips and the calibration tool in the app. If riding with them, it's worth putting the transparency on in order to hear cars/surroundings better.

I like aftermarket foam tips for better security and sound quality: https://www.complyfoam.com/products/...s-pro-ear-tips. Ditto on transparency mode for situational awareness.

I sometimes ride with one in one ear only and wear a headband to cover it so it cant fall out.

Airpods don't stay in well enough for me to use them during any activity.
But I see others wearing em on the basketball court. Valley all court, cycling, etc. I ride with jlab ANC Air Sport earbuds- they are the more expensive over the ear hook style. The case charges with a cord or wireless charger, you can customize what 3 different taps in each earbuds means, they aut9nplay and auto stop, and best of all- they stay when riding. I don't ever use 'be aware' mode because I can hear ambient noise just fine on the regular setting. The ear buds don't plug and lock into my ear canal so noise cancelation isn't a concern. |

Air pods worked well then the batteries started holding less of a charge, so I upgraded to the Pros a few years ago. Never got a secure fit despite trying all of the different tips and using the app, kept sliding out. Finally lost one of them and now using the Beats Fit Pro, which have wings that provide a more secure fit. Everyone's ears are different, so trying them out if you can is advised.

Add Waterproof Tape
For this DIY method of keeping AirPods in your ears, you'll need some waterproof tape. The Nexcare 3M brand is typically recommended as it's sticky and durable. Next, you'll need a regular hole punch to cut out circular pieces or scissors to cut out rectangular strips of tape. I'm considering giving this method a try as well too... |

I could never get AirPods to fit well enough to wear outside. They’re for for work but not exercise.

Long time AirPods Pro user here. Started with the first generation and sold those and got the newest generation when they came out last year.
I really like riding with my right ear bud in when riding so I have an open ear to the road. You can still have noise cancelling on in the one ear. A future firmware update will make the wind noise/cancellation much better, that's my only complaint. They are fan-cast-ic for phone calls, general work stuff, as well as indoor riding. I'm a fan of having one device serve multiple purposes, and these do it for work, fitness, and everyday life. Bonus points for allowing mute, volume up and down, and hang up/answer all with the click of the AirPod button. If you also have other Apple devices in the house, they sync and switch seamlessly so you don't have to pair and unpair anything. Example: I can have my phone, MacBook, and watch all going and if someone calls me on my phone the AirPods switch to that, if I join a zoom on my computer after hanging up the phone, the AirPods switch to that, if I answer a call on my watch, they switch to that. I also like that I can send my Apple TV audio to them via Airplay so I can watch TV and have the sound come through my AirPods. $169 right now on amazon and maybe a little lower (~$150) on Black Friday. |

I thought they would be handy with the Apple TV. When I had used normal Bluetooth headphones it was always a pain to pair/unpair meanwhile showing that my daughter's pair were in the house. Sometimes little conveniences are pretty handy.

Bone conduction vs Isolation
I have ridden with both Shokz and Airpods. Strongly prefer Shokz and believe the open ear design is much safer. Not a zero chance of losing an airpod after hitting a bump with sweat slick ears. Airpod pros certainly have better fidelity, but that is not really that relevant for cycling.
Caveat: I will only use headphones on a bike trail Black Friday will likely have some deals; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1 |
