anyone riding their "good" road bikes with flat pedals?

Thanks for the feedback. MKS, made a few kilometers from my first home in Japan, a solid likeable recommendation.

Anyone used the Fly pedal adapters(opens to youtube)? They read and Youtube well. I find the concept quite appealing but they ain't cheap over here to gamble on.

I think that what this actually calls for is N+1. I hate to say this but I'm thinking that what you actually need is an extra "light townie road bike", ideally made from light gauge steel and equipped with flat pedals, wide slick tires and drop handlebars. You'll need some carbon fiber kit on it so that it isn't too heavy of course.

Kidding aside, I've got my old Kona Jake the Snake gravel bike currently equipped with flat pedals. I was going to sell it when I got my Crux, but its been a super useful bike for pulling the kiddie trailer, then the child seat when they got a little older. My daughter (my youngest and last kid) just outgrew the kiddie seat, which is super sad, so its now just chillin in my garage with flat pedals and a 760mm riser bar.

12,000 yen which in US$ is 80$ but in Japan it feels like $120

I was thinking N+1 yesterday morning . Can't justify it.

I put SPD pedals on my 1975 Colnago. All my mountain bikes have flat pedals.

I’ve got some crank bros duo pedals that I slap on once in a while for a casual hang with casual riding mates

I went with the MKS Urban Step-in A

All my off road shoes are set up for Time ATAC pedals so it just made sense. I did a 50 km ride on my road pedals with flat soles shoes and it wasn't too bad. Probably smoothed my spin out a little.

I've always hated any pedals that means the rider is attached to the bike, so always had flats on whatever bike type it is.

They're fine for knocking about. I tried a 100km on flats and really didn't care for the experience. I know some Randonneurs who swear by them, even at 1200km. So obviously it can be done.
