Thru Axle adapter questions.
I've used TA to QR and 15mm to 12mm sleeve adapters.
The 15mm Thru Axle with sleeve adapter to 12mm works only sometimes. Problem being the outer 15mm axle diameter and fork axle recess on 12mm TA forks. I've had one case of this working, an ENVE on Helix Pro, but sold that, like to use these nice wheels. Almost got a used Niner BSB RDO, takes a 15mm front. But wound up with an ALR5 frameset better deal instead for fatter tire fit, yada. The wheels are XTR hubs I built up and would like to use. Both my Boone and ALR5 Checkpoint [in build stage] forks are a no go. Any thoughts experience, curious what anyone else has encountered in this regard.

As the person who sold you the Checkpoint, I did use some 15mm Mavic Crossmaxes with a 12mm adapter on the bike for a spell. The adapter was great, but the TA cap interface size on your XTR hubs will determine if they work with that fork.

The only hubs where I want to do this don't have removable end caps, of course. I have thought about taking a file to the caps with a guide. The difference in the dropouts is pretty small, that's why this works sometimes.

yeah, I thought about making the OD of the AXLE smaller diameter.
I don't think the XTR is caps, axle all the way thru.

I've used a Dremel to enlarge the slot to fit my 15mm dynamo hub on both a steel and carbon fork. I'm not telling you what to do with your life, but I've done it and live to tell about it.

Yeah, maybe I'll open up the alloy on the dropout ala Dremel a few mm, on the Checkpoint. Paint perfect on the Boone and I am not nuts about the 58 Fit in the reach dept.

It appears that the end caps on Shimano cartridge bearing hubs are removeable. It's possible it's not easy. There is service data on the shimano site.
