OT: (Halloween) Candy.
I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, thankfully. It certainly saved me from the patisseries around every corner in France. (Although, when in France…)
But, once a year, when the ghouls, goblins, and ghosts come back with their holiday bounty, I succumb to temptation. When my little pumpkins go to bed, I secretly sift through their treasures. I discard almost everything. I’m only in search of that tell-tale iconic bright orange, gold, and brown lettering. This one. Nothing comes close. I do feel guilty for plundering their treasures. But I’m their Father, and it’s for their own good. |

Now you're speaking my language.
If you find any of these in there, snap them up immediately. They are like the originals, but better! Oh, and dad's have been raiding their kids halowwen candy since it was a thing. Being a dad is hard work. You are entitled.

It's true that the pumpkin, Christmas tree, and Easter egg shapes are better than the original cups.
They cast off the Almond Joys and Mounds to me. While they like them, they both save the Heath bars for me. That's a dad candy if there ever was one. |

In my household, we are instituting a two week free-for-all on Halloween candy. We are leaving it up to the kids to "self medicate" their candy addiction.
There is only one rule: No candy in their rooms. All candy needs to be eaten in the kitchen or living room. At the end of two weeks, the candy will either be donated or thrown away. Curious to hear other family dynamics. |

I must be a mutant. I love chocolate and peanut butter, but find Reese's to be meh. Halloween leftovers for me are Starburst and Dots.

We sift through and get all the nut-related ones out; Reece's included
We keep some of them, some I take to the office and put them on the kitchen counter there. The kids' portions, we let them eat freely. They have been good at not eating them all at once, and we still have candy from last year. That 2-week rule above sounds like something I will have to adopt - even if it's for myself. Trying to watch my weight and sweets, it's more dangerous to me than them |

My son and wife both have Celiac so I get all the candies that turn out to contain Gluten.
I tend to get Candy at Xmas and it takes me most of the year to eat that or I toss it after it expires. Then Halloween, I get the candy that has Gluten that my son collects. I tend to like some of this stuff better. Nestle Crunch, Twix, Kit Kat. The weird thing that is super annoying for people with issues is some of this candy does or does not contain gluten depending on which factory it comes from. - Normal packaged Hershey's PB Cup like XX Twindad posted - gluten free - Pumpkin shaped seasonal Halloween PB Cup - overflow factory that makes different things, these are contaminated in the factory - has gluten Full Size Hershey's bars are the same thing. They come from a plant that basically just makes those, so they are gluten free. The small seasonal ones are from an overflow plant that they don't clean the machinery enough to be safe, so I get those. Our neighbors took a trip to Denmark a while ago and brought back a bag of Somods Bolcher candies. They don't even list the ingredients, so I got to eat those. They are less sweet than American hard candies I'd say, and barely bigger than a cough drop. Good stuff. Last edited by benb; Today at 01:55 PM. |

I definitely partook in a few treats last night! Reese PB Cups are acridly sweet/salty to me, but I get the allure. The lowly KitKat is where its at for me.
We also impose a candy-tithe in our family - kids have to give away a large chunk of their booty as there is just too much sugar in the house. I brought a large ziploc bag in to work today and it has been demolished, last I looked when I refilled my water bottle. Adults apparently love candy too! |

Wife has celiac, so our house is fully gluten free. My oldest agreed to keep candy for our younger kid in her car, since that would allow kitkats and whatnot to be kept.
...oh my gosh that was a back and forth last night! The sudden skepticism was hilarious to watch. Meanwhile, about 20minutes ago I took a peanut butter cup and a reese's pumpkin out of my kid's inside stash. It isnt her sister that she should be skeptical of! Related note- individual reese's cups have shrunk. Whatever I guess, but they are noticeably smaller. |

My son was never into chocolate, I don't know what happened. He liked candy corn/pumpkins and now he's a Marine, so I figure they were a gateway drug to crayons.

I absolutely hate candy corns.
They taste like what I imagine eating a crayon or a candle would be like. I don't get it, almost everyone else seems to like them. |

We had close to 500 kids last night, so a portion of my kids candy ends up being recycled to give to other kids.
I have come to realize that my stomach can't take chocolate, so am spared from the mini bars, but I do like a good gummy. |

I call it the “Daddy Tax”. The kids have come to expect it and are resigned to it for all treat items.
Reese’s is also tops for me, along with Mounds and $100,000 bar which are pretty rare now. I find candy corns disgusting as well. |

We live kinda in the boonies so no T-or-Ters but we tend to buy a bag or two of the Lindt Lindor Truffles and knock them off in the following weeks after no kiddies have shown up. This year we didn't even bother doing that.
