question re: getting ridewithgps course from desktop site to Garmin 1040

Seems to me I used to be able to do this wirelessly from my desktop to my 1040 via the ridewithgps app in Connect IQ on my Garmin. I could pin the route to the 1040, find it in pinned routes in IQ, then download it for use all wirelessly. Seems something has changed and now the only way to do this is via usb cable and copying and pasting the actual course into new files after downloading to my desktop files.

Know what I mean?

Download route file from rwgps. Then go to Garmin connect, upload course in route planner. Save and send to 1040.

This works with my 830, no USB cable needed. https://support.ridewithgps.com/hc/e...Garmin-Connect

Similar process to sync with Strava.

never mind i figured it out.

if I pin it from my ridewithgps desktop and I'm patient enough it will transfer directly to saved courses on the Garmin. just gotta wait a bit for the wireless file to go over the air.

In RWGPS, assuming your Garmin has been aurjorized to sync, you merely need to “pin” the route (in the save route menu) and the route will be added to your edge when you sync via WiFi or the Garmin Connect app.

I use the rwgps app on my phone and the IQ app on my garmin. Pin the route on rwgps (unpin it later). Last time I did that at burger king. Also did it in France in an airbnb.

RWGPS on Apple laptop to Garmin 1040

Delete some unused files to make space if route wont show up
Pull up route on laptop on RWGPS
Select Export fit file and download
Go to Finder and move route file to desktop
Name of route doesn’t matter for transfer
Plug Garmin into miniUSB to USB to Mac port, let Garmin connect, find Garmin in Finder locations
Open Garmin, open New Files, move route file to folder
Click on Garmin location and eject Garmin from Finder
Confirm new file is in Saved routes on Garmin

according to ride with gps in a message today...

they are no longer supporting or Garmin is no longer supporting the ridewithgps iq app.

Hello Eddie,

Cynthia here, thank you for reaching out!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulty transferring routes to your Garmin device. We have phased out our connection with Garmin's Connect IQ apps. The Ride with GPS Connect IQ app is no longer available for Garmin devices, and previously downloaded versions of the Connect IQ app may have some bugs.

I recommend syncing routes by linking your Ride with GPS and Garmin Connect accounts instead. To link your Ride with GPS and Garmin Connect accounts check out our tutorial here: https://ridewithgps.zendesk.com/hc/e...12212873378075.

When you link your Garmin Connect and Ride with GPS accounts, routes that you pin or "send to device" will sync from Ride with GPS to your Garmin Connect account. Once routes are synced to your Garmin Connect account, they can sync to your Garmin device from Garmin Connect.

If you have pinned an item in the past, you will need to un-pin and then re-pin that route, as only routes Pinned after this sync has been established will transfer over to your device. We have more information about pinning here - https://support.ridewithgps.com/hc/e...n-Routes-Rides

Have you downloaded the Garmin Connect mobile app to your phone? When you've downloaded the Garmin Connect app to your phone and bluetooth-connected your Garmin device to your Garmin Connect app, you can sync routes from Garmin Connect to compatible Garmin devices.

Would you let me know if you see routes that you've recently pinned listed in your Garmin Connect account's courses? You can view your courses in your Garmin Connect mobile app by tapping More> Training & Planning> Courses (see screenshots: https://s3.amazonaws.com/rwgps/scree...0311-29-54.png and https://s3.amazonaws.com/rwgps/scree...0309-33-20.png). Dragging down from the top of your courses screen will refresh your courses (see screenshot: https://s3.amazonaws.com/rwgps/scree...0309-33-41.png).
All the best,
Cynthia

I suspect that they are no longer supporting the connect IQ app because it is no longer necessary. I think the functionality is available if you connect your RidewithGPS account and your Garmin Connect account.

^^^^^^
This is the correct answer.
All you have to do is click the "send to garmin" button and it will show up in about 1.3 seconds on your 1040, it's super simple, super easy and super fast.
