I saw this one in person today and it is a classic case of photos not doing the object justice. What a great machine.

The dark metallic blue Sachs with pink and lime accents is a repaint in style of 2007 Era to give it period correct look.

Well.....I know I said no more bikes, time to retire and be responsible. But, when a Look 555 with full Ultegra 10 speed shows up locally for a great price what can you do?
The STI shifter are buggered cosmetically and when I first tried them both shifted up but not down. I've yet to have any STI shifter that was actually broken so this didn't bother me much. There was a mismatched wheelset on it with the rear wheel being a heavy Shimano/Alex setup while the front was a really nice and light Velomax hubbed Easton. With what I know of these wheels I bet the rear rim cracked sometime in the past. Oh and I did miss a cracked pulley on the RD. I'm used to finding those on old Campagnolo but not Shimano. Once again, no problem, I've got replacements in my stash. Couldn't find my preferred PB Blaster so I first flushed the shifters with WD-40. The rear came right to life but repeated flushing with the front yielded nothing. Let it soak for a day and still nothing. Flushed with more WD-40 and still nothing. Then I searched better, found my PB Blaster, hit the front again and a minute later it was back to life. WIN!!!! Swapped out the mismatched wheels (that rear was crazy heavy!) for some Mavic Kyserium SL's and for now put on some old red GP3000s 700 x 23 tires. New Veloflex's are on the way. The bike was 18 lbs 2 ozs as in this picture of how I got it. Once I pulled off the empty saddle bag, bottle cages, computer mount, and swapped wheels it was right at 16 lbs, 13 ozs. Oh and the original rear had a Shimano 105 cassette and the lockring was tight as crap. So for now I swapped on a Sram Red 10 speed cassette I had in the stash. I should get it out for a test ride Thursday. I have one mint ST-6600 rear shifter in my stash but the front one is for a triple. The shifter on it are mangled pretty bad. So I'll be looking for a matching double or another full set to put on this. But for now I'll ride as is. If I like it I do have enough of a mixed Campagnolo 11 speed setup to even go that route. I'm curious to see how this compares to my MKIV Colnago C40. |
