Rivnut replacement
Looking at a Ti frame. One of the bottle cage rivnuts is stripped and spins. Is this a DIY repair or better left to a shop? Any ideas what a shop might charge?

Which one is it?
If it's a seat tube nut, removal of the old one is definitely easy as it comes out the seatpost hole. On some frames, removal of the old one on the DT may not be so easy. Beyond that, it's about as easy of a DIY job as it gets, in my experience. If you bring it to a shop, I can't imagine this is more than an hour of labor, so whatever their hourly rate is + a couple bucks (literally) for the actual rivnut insert.

If it just needs tightened its easy ti meke a tool out of a bolt, nuts, and some washers to tighten it.

It’s the upper down tube bolt. Amazon has tool kits for less than $25. I might tackle this myself if I get the bike.

If you wind up drilling out the rivnut and parts fall into the frame tube, just spray some Great Stuff foam in the tube to lock the rattler in place.

Totally doable. I have done this replacement where I had to glue the remnants in place on a ti frame. I have also put rivnuts in several 70s era frames so I don't have to use water bottle clamps. Just need the right rivnut and a few bits to tighten it in place.

I replaced them all on my 2008 Lynskey R320. Drilled out the old and put in the new. Pretty easy job with the right tools.
