Reynolds G650 gravel wheelset setup help!

Just bought a Reynolds G650 gravel wheelset (via Excel Sports) and am having some challenges.

I'm planning on using this wheelset on my LiteSpeed Watia with Ekar 13.

First, I ordered a Reynolds/Ringle NW3 freehub but the body is wider than the installed freehub and won't install.

Does anyone know the correct (Campy style) NW3 freehub for this wheelset?

Also, I'd like to install Campy Ekar rotors on the wheels, but the Campy lockrings go on the outside of the hub and the hub seems to be threaded on the inside for lockrings. Thoughts on the correct lockring for this application?

(edit: looks there are a number of third party lockrings that have the external threading for the hub.)

Many thanks!

This looks like the Freehub for those wheels, and doesn't appear to come in N3W: https://hayesbicycle.com/products/sr...41783839227949

Maybe you can contact Reynolds directly to see if they have anything for those wheels?

Thanks...

The description for the wheelset does say "N3W available"...so...I've talked with a couple of retailers already, will call Hayes in the morning. Just missed them today.

(Probably should have started there... *They* don't list the N3W freehub on their website...I'm hoping this isn't a "futures" option as I do really like the wheels...)

Life was so simple when Campy NR ball bearings were loose!

Hayes responded, indicating that while the freehub does exist, they don't list it on their website and nobody else seems to carry it.

But...I was able to order it from them...and it should ship on Monday.

Bless Hayes Bicycle Group, and specifically Eric in tech support, who responded after hours and took my order!

Here's the Reynolds part number: 281-31520-K016

Reminds me of my challenges finding a Campy freehub for my Neo 2T smart trainer...there appeared to be two in the world at the time, both in Europe.

Is Campy that marginal these days...or am I just finding weird combos?

New Ekar cassette and Hayes freehub should both be in later this week.

In the meantime I mounted a pair of Pirelli H 650 tires, width 45.

Easy enough to mount...first one took a bit of work, second time (after orienting it properly) it was easier. Second one went on nicely.

And both seated beautifully with moderate pressure from my compressor, no shenanigans needed (like removing valve core...)

Lots of meat on these wheels, looking forward to trying them out soon. Who needs a mountain bike?

IDK.

Some weirdo mounted a pair of carbon BTLOS rims on a set of beautiful NOS Campy Record OS hubs.

Need to get the Psychlo X build finished and those wheels set up with tires!

Grrr...replaced valve core, tire went flat in about 30 minutes. I guess I have to remove tire and install new tape...

...but...before I do that...I added 3 oz of sealant, pumped the tire up to 40 lbs, rotated it a number of times, then rotated slowly while pushing down on the tire. When I stopped I heard air slowly whistling from one location between sidewall and rim. Did some more squeezing around that area, and it seems to have stopped. Hopefully I found the problem!

Also found that the Ekar cassette on this wheelset needs a longer chain. Would not shift into two smallest cogs.

Other cassette had a 40 small, this one's a 42. I *thought* the chain was a bit short...but it did shift...

As a follow up, I'm pleased to announce....um, er....

It's still hard.

The tire. You pigs.

I do love my ekar, but being the 4th most popular freehub body is frustrating haha

Not sure if you used a compressor or an airshot style pump for the intial seating of the bead, but i've found it important to

1) listen for the pop as everything seats
2) rotate the wheels and check both beads for even seating
3) if it didn't seat evenly and can't be massaged into place like you did above, some soapy water can help.
