Anyone else get an email from Planet Cyclery?

Didn't they go out of business?

It's part of Cambria Bike now.

Did Cambria Bike actually buy any part of the Planet Cyclery business? Or did they just buy the rights to use the name and web site address? The new Planet Cyclery looks suspiciously identical to the Cambria Bike website, just a different logo in the mast head.

Was there anything left but the name at the end?

Probably not.

This situation seems a lot like the Nashbar & Performance Bike situation. Both Nashbar and Performance Bike were owned by a company called Advanced Sports International (ASI), which also owned Fuji, Kestrel, Breezer and few other brands. Despite being owned by the same parent company, Nashbar and Performance maintained their own identities, with their own eclectic assortments of house brand products. But when ASI declared bankruptcy in 2018, all assets of all brands were auctioned off, including closing warehouses and retail stores, and shutting down customer service and fulfillment operations.

An ecommerce company named Amain.com bought the names "Nashbar" & "Performance Bike", as well as the web URLs nashbar.com and performancebike.com, but no other assets. They then setup up web pages behind these URLs which were essentially the same as the Amain.com web pages, just with different logo, selling the same products as Amain.com. Gone were the Nashbar and Performance branded products, and any kind of differentiation from Amain.com or each other.

I've made several purchases from performancebike.com, and they seem like a legitimate, well run e-commerce retailer. But other than the name, they
share little in common with the original brands.

Cambria bike is a long time and well respected e-commerce retailer, and I have no doubt that customers who order from the Planet Cyclery web page will be well served.
