The proper drill size for an M6 x 1 tap is 5mm. That means your tube will be 1mm too large in ID to get full threads.
It might work if the load is VERY low but that said the threads will be very shallow. dave |

Yeah I goofed, it's 8mm OD with a 1.5 wall thickness, which is 5mm and the right size to be tapped M6.
