What's a DA7700 triple groupset worth?
Friend is selling a bike, but doesn't want to ship the whole frame. Shipping the components alone is worth considering, so I'm wondering how much they're worth. He's got a Dura Ace 7700 nine speed triple groupset. Crank is 170, 53-39-30 chainrings, and matching RD and FD, along with the triple left DA shifter and 9 speed rear shifter. Plus chain and cassette (11-27, I think), and matching caliper rim brakes. All in classic polished silver finish. Could add a seat post and saddle, too.
Any thougths on value? Thanks very much. |

Highly dependent on condition. Is the crank all oxidized like they tend to get with heavy use? Are the hoods worn? Rash on the rear derailleur?
Well used group probably around $150. Mint condition I could see it selling for $300 plus. |

The triple crankset and derailleur are worth the bulk of the price in my opinion and would be an easier sell alone than the full group. Maybe $100-$150 to someone wanting a silver triple on their randonneur? I think worth a lot less now that we have sub-compact doubles available.

The hoods themselves are valuable. Finding replacements are impossible, so die-hard 7700 riders will buy used shifters just for the hoods.

To the right buyer, for example 7700 triple is still a primo setup on a tandem-especially, or maybe mostly, the shifters. Bonus points if the RD is long cage, though even the long cage does have a max cog limit on the small side by today's standards.

I think the cassette might be 12-27. Some of the ones on e-Bay have Flite Deck computer systems which would be a plus to me. I have 3x9 Ultegra w/Flite Deck on my Rambouillet. A touch of humor: a self-proclaimed expert once told me it was a crappy system because it didn't tell me my cadence when I was coasting. I assured him I knew my exact cadence when I was coasting.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't seen the bike in a while, has been in inside house storage. Thinking it's in VG condition. I'll mention to friend that it's worth considering selling just group separately.
Charles, thanks for that info - wow. |

I recall that the middle chainring on these is specific to 7703, and long since scarce on the ground, so inspect carefully.
I preferred setting up Shimano Octalink road triples with the XTR 112mm bottom bracket versus the 118mm original. Only a 1-3/8" seat tube might make the 112mm a lesser choice. "9-speed" STI hoods are currently being sold out of Europe (Poland I believe), selling for about $40 and of a somewhat more-fragile elastomer than originals. Same outfit recently sold me repro AX lever hoods that had long been unavailable. Last edited by dddd; 09-26-2024 at 07:36 PM. |

Just saw on CL someone in the Bronx selling 6600 triple group in excellent condition asking. Depends on expediency. Want to sell it quick and easy, maybe get a couple hundred. Willing to wait you could prob get up to $600 with the right buyer. Big "if" there, though.
