Scheduled for tomorrow. Hoping that they won't need me. MA sends out an email the day prior if not needed...I'll be refreshing my mail client a lot today.

If I do need to go, I'll be wearing a mask (immune-compromised). Maybe that will be enough for me to get bypassed/unseated.

Wear lycra and an aero helmet. That should do it.

I lived in NH 34-1/2 years and never was summoned. A friend sat three weeks on a murder case. I was self-employed and worried about such a thing happening to me.

In MA I was summoned once but got the 'never mind' email the day before. Now that I'm over 70 I can be put on an exempt list if I choose, but I haven’t done that. I'm curious enough to do it once if called. The district courthouse would be a fifteen mile roundtrip bike ride so I'd get some exercise . I don't know if they could summon an Islander to a mainland court, that could suck.

I got selected for Jury duty in my home town twice in a year while I was away at college. I got excused since it was 2.5 hours away, but was disappointed at the time, since I was considering Law School. I've been a registered voter constantly since I was 18, but haven't been called on again in the 25 years since.

I think that the old superstitions (voter registration and advanced degrees) have become overcome by events. Most jurisdictions use multiple sources to fill out the rosters of potential jurors. I know many people with masters degrees or greater who have served on juries. When I served, the only people who were dismissed had true hardships (e.g., caregiver responsibilities for elders, children, or infirm relatives), had ties to plaintiffs or defendants, or displayed strong, biased opinions when interviewed.

I was once on a jury charged with deciding about a convict charged with assaulting a corrections officer in a jail. We ultimately acquitted the con and recommended to the judge that the corrections officer be reprimanded for gross misconduct against the con. That was a wild ride......

Exactly what I was thinking about.

"It's not me, it's you. I mean, why are you wearing suits and starched white shirts?"
