Splugen Pass?
Mentioned in another thread. Has anyone tackled this one on a bicycle? Looks amazing. Safe to do so?

That photo is of the Swiss side of the pass. I've ridden the Italian side, which is way different. Starts in Chiavenna, goes through several small villages on the way up, and through some seriously narrow tunnels that freaked me out due to how loud they were when motorcycles were in them, which was almost always, and just how narrow and tight they were. No shoulder at all. Remember too, you're in the tunnels for much longer when you are climbing - different than in the video where he's rolling down through them. There is a series of 10 tunnels joined by very tight hairpins that climb up a slope that are mindblowing. Hard to believe that road was even built, it's pretty insane.
The last few km to the summit are very alpine, above all of the villages. Totally different environment. Last edited by tv_vt; 09-06-2024 at 01:42 PM.

Incredible!
I have a significant birthday coming up in about 5 years. To celebrate it, my goal is to rent an Abarth 595 and spend two weeks driving all of the famous Italian passes. I need to add this one to the list! Texbike

Yeah have done it - doesn’t stand out in my recollection as anything special. Had a nice coffee on the top along the lake.
Rode from the Swiss side into Italy - so descended the Italian side but can second the view from above about some nervousness in the tunnels with the traffic. If I remember correctly we managed to find an alternate route away from the traffic lower in the valley.
