SRAM AXS Newbie Compatibility Help
So I picked up a shifter? from the pros closet that was on sale, its like this one for my mountain bike.
https://www.universalcycles.com/shop....php?id=103990 Im slowly putting together a groupset when I find things on sale to try it out. Will this shifter work with any rear AXS rear derailleur, like a GX? |

Yes, that’s the beauty of AXS. MTB to MTB shifter/derailer, or road to MTB or vice versa.
Set up is super easy with the AXS app as well. |

Agreed, the POD is a big upgrade IMO.

When I rode geared MTB with AXS I preferred the same left and right shifting as the AXS Road groups. I was able to do that with the wireless blips and an hour on the 3D printer.

I have no issues with the original shifter and have heard similar complaints for the new shifter. It is definitely personal preference.

I struggled to dial in the angle for the original shifter, and also switched to blips. I got some 3d printed Leap Components buttons and they are excellent.

As noted, AXS shifters can pair to any AXS derailleur.
The "trouble" comes when trying to mix/match road vs mtb drivetrains. They use different chains with different cog and chainring profiles. Plus the latest mtb drivetrains are UDH-only (Transmission). I thought about swapping my old hardtail to AXS, but can't find a combo that works for me. AXS XPLR uses the road chain, and there's no compatible chainring that works with my Shimano crankset. Frame isn't UDH, so I'd have to use older GX RD, which might not be available once the UDH groups are common, plus I'd have to use a 10-52 mtb cassette and just don't need that much range on the bike (the 10-42 XPLR would be great with a 34 or 36t ring).
