Off Topic: We celebrate our 40th anniversary today.
The wife and I have been married for 40 years today.
Plans: A quick bike ride this AM. More like 40 minutes verses miles since we are Chicagobound this morning, 150 miles north. We lived and were married in Chicago we will take 2 of our 5 grandchildren, the other three are in California, to the Chinese restaurant where we held our small wedding reception then after that spend more time with family. A trip is planned for October since my wife still works and she has a fall break then from the school district she teaches at. Life is good especially when shared with a very special person!

Congratulations!
I think it's true about the "7 year itch" - I think once you get past a certain number of years with a partner, you just know it's going to work for the long haul. Very cool that the restaurant you got married at is still open too, a rarity today! Cheers to another 40 for you both!

The two of you deserve a “distinguished service” award. Seriously. Never been a huge fan of weddings, but I’d go to a lot more of them if they were “ten year” celebrations. Easy to get married. A lot harder to stay together.

Cheers and congrats on your happy marriage!
From experience, there is no 'point of happy returns', or whatever. My four siblings and I have all been married. One marrriage is over 50 years. Three others lasted 10-20 years, and one lasted maybe 5. Two did not remarry, and two others are on second marriages that are into their third and fourth decades. Life seems to have many phases, and sometimes partners just really start to diverge in their interests and focus, and it becomes better to change. For those like OP who luck out and find someone to spend their whole life with, it's a true blessing and an amazing journey. Last edited by tv_vt; 08-31-2024 at 11:21 AM. |

Congrats and have a great wedding weekend! We were a Chicagoland wedding as well, 27 years ago. Married in the North Shore but did my bachelor party in the City including a Cubs game and a burger at the Billy Goat Tavern.

Congratulations, we've been married 42 years now, our wedding day photos were so bad we never showed them to anyone (photographer ?, what photographer...)
