When I was stationed in San Diego, my bike was called "old school" all the time because it was steel. Pegoretti BLE with Record 11 is apparently old.

Same School
Some years back I showed up a the local shop ride on my Ottrott ST. Dyed tubes (burgundy), Campy 10, Neutron wheels.
After the ride, chock full of the latest matt black carbon creations, three young guys came up individually and all commented “prettiest bike out here”. |

"Old school" might be a decent description of most of my bikes, even the new ones. Someone once told me my steel bike was "a nice old bike," even though it was only a couple of years old.
I was riding PBP in 2019 when a guy rode up next to me and asked, "français?" I think that's the same as saying I was riding an old bike. |

I don't know about the bike, but the fact that you quoted Walter Cronkite definitely makes you "old school."

And I guess it is, but it serves me just fine and some of them I consider quite modern compared to the others. If I ever gave in to my desires and had my own custom steel Kirk made I'm sure many would see it and think, "Old School" even if it had the most modern of components on it. |

Absolutely. I get the same about my EP, EPS, and Z1. I was asked today on a ride if I was going to buy a modern bike. Told them I love round and level top tubes too much.

What I do wonder is if Pog was riding a Kirk* steel bike this Tour and Jonas was on his Cervelo wonderbike, would Pog have preserved his 6 min lead and still win? My gut says no. But I am sure there must websites that could spit out some semi decent numbers based on aero gains/stiffness of the Cervelo wonderbike Vs the Kirk.
