November Dave built me a set of i9 hubs/HED Belgium+ rims for my Firefly, so I had to respond to this thread. The green i9 hubs are fantastic. These are the ultra wide rims--you kinda look at them and think, "wow, that's wiiiiiidde".

As I told Tim when he was looking for that set, and everyone else who asked for my recommendation for the best available aluminum rim, HEDs are the best. Eastons are very close and there are many others that are good. HED are the best. I very rarely make absolute statements, this is a question on which I do. I’ve built thousands of wheels, HEDs have clearly distinguished themselves over that history. I’ve split Kinlins in the stand, hab H+ rims do all sorts of weird stuff, usually needed to post finish DT, Velocity, and Astral rims, new Mavic Open Pros were bad all around, and had occasional warranty issues with everything else we built. Not HEDs.
