Wolftooth is $22 on Amazon. I think it falls within my budget.

Not sure if the Roadlink or Roadlink DM is better. Instinct say the DM as it has one less point of failure.

Like other have stated 11-40 works with GRX 810 the 2x rear derailleur. That is what I have on my bike with the 48/31 crank. I would say it's could be fine with 50/34 with the right chain length.
On the road side, I have tried an 11-36 on my r8000 and on R7000 and it works perfect. Have not gone 40. I have done both the road link 10 and 11 speeds for the r8000 and GRX derailleur didn't feel it made a huge difference. It looks cool 😎. |

IIRC the DM is what I used when I was fooling around with an 11-40 on my Anderson, with an R8000 RD.

I've managed to use an 11-40 XT cassette with an R7000 GS rear derailleur and 50/34 front rings. It just worked WITHOUT a road link but did require the B screw dialed all the way in and a perfectly sized chain. Shifted well and could use 50/40 without binding (although derailleur angle was fairly extreme) and the 34/11 without dragging (although again close). As a rule I would stop at the 50/35 and 34/15 but overall it worked quite well. That bike is now back to short cage with an 11-32 (didn't need the gearing outside of the event for which I swapped it).

I'm also running the XT 11-40t cassette on one bike. I'm running the GRX 46/30t cranks paired with an R7000 GS RD fitted with the Roadlink DM and it works really well. Plenty of range of adjustment. I'm a spinner so I really like the low-end climbing gears.
Before I installed it, I read that the R7000 RD could probably handle the shifting without the Roadlink but when I mocket it up, it looked too close to maxed out for my preferences. KJ |

Picked up a Wolf Tooth Roadlink DM today. Definitely solved the clearance issue. Now to finish building.
