$26,995 Serotta
From email: " Exclusively Designed and Crafted Specifically for You. Complete Bicycles from $7995 to $26,995."
I wonder if the $26,995 reflects an actual purchase or a possible build. In any case, OMG. Nice photos of various bikes including one with a carbon segment, or looks like carbon, in seatstays. |

Ya. that's an insulting price.
but if people have it and want to spend it, be my guest. honestly over 8K, I don't see what else you are getting I splurged a little under 6 and I have 0 desire to upgrade anything on my bicycle. it's perfect. |

I saw the email too and thought the 27 might be a typo in the email?
When we got together with Ben and Co earlier this year we did get to see some nice bikes and chat, and I remember thinking the bikes were not that outrageously priced. Maybe that $27k was supposed to be $17, at the very top end?

That's not carbon, it's a cerakote finish.
If they have a market for a $27,000 bike good for them. People pay millions for an exclusive car. The same customer exists for a bicycle. |

If he put GRX on it he could sell it for north of 30k.

I worked at a high-end shop where we came close enough to that number once (maybe twice), that I don't find that number wholly unreasonable. Full custom everything, with only the best in terms of componentry etc., probably with an extra flourish here and there. The person buying at that level isn't concerned with the cost. It allows buyers at a lower price point to more easily justify their purchases.

Paint/other finishing charges could be a big chunk of it.
Bear in mind you can buy a pair of Lightweight Fernweg's that cost $11,000. Throw a THM Clavicula with a power meter on there while you're at it for $2500 and so on. Seems feasible if you really are willing to stump up the coin. |

That seems foolish that they suggest a price like that . I know there are buyers (dumb enough) to pay that, but I would leave it off the menu and just wait for when those 1 or 2 customers say, “hey, how can I spend more money?” Then they suggest the $11k wheels and the $5k paint. Ridiculous.
I might be grouchy because I am through the phase of expensive bikes in my life. My old Speedvagen, if bought today, would be somewhere around $10k and that seems crazy. Bikes simply don’t get better when you pay more money on fancier parts and paint! PS the bikes look nice - don’t get me wrong |

As others have said, offering a super high price item gives the illusion of luxury and makes everything else seem like a relative value.
Good for consumerism psychology. |

People spend $100,000 on a watch that doesn't tell time better than a $20 Timex. What makes a $100 or $1000 bottle of wine worth it? Just because it's out of your comfort range for spending doesn't mean there isn't a market for it. How many homeless people would think you're an idiot for spending more than a few hundred dollars on a bicycle? I guess I'm a grouchy old man too. I will never spend $27,000 on a bike, but I won't look down on anyone who does. |

Not sure if you folks have noticed it yet, but most of these brands including any top end titanium worldwide manufacturer are selling bikes to the ultra wealthy. Most of these are not being sold in the USA as our cost of living has gone bonkers, but other places around the world instead. No22 for example has an average sale of a complete for around $15k. Mosaic is the same as are all of the other high end boutique companies like Firefly, Baum and the list goes on. If you think that is too much then you aren't the target market.
While the 26k seems absurd it isn't even that hard to get there when the swankiest wheels are over 10k. Groupsets in the 5k-7k range. Add a top end titanium bespoke frame and that number is pretty easy to achieve. Sent from my Pixel 6a using Tapatalk |
