Power Meter Options - Ultegra R8100 w/SPD-SL

Seems like reliable options are a bit limited:
  • Shimano Ultegra R8100 Power Meter - Issues with Driveside (per gplama and other reviewers)
  • Assioma DuoShi - Increased Q-Factor (may work for some)
  • Stages - Out of business
  • 4iiii's - Cracking battery cover

Is the Garmin Rally the only option that's reliable if using SPD-SL cleats?

4iiii is generally considered reliable.

Otherwise Garmin Rally is good as well. I switched from 4iiii on two bikes this spring to Garmin Rally pedals on each of them. No issues, other than I prefer Time pedals!!

Is Power2Max not an option?

Doesn’t Quarq make a power meter that can use Shimano chainrings?

I switched my SPD-SLs for the regular Favero Assiomas. I can tell the difference. But right now I want power, so I'm living with them. I have a feeling (no inside knowledge!!) that Favero might put out an SPD-SL PM, but with the body done by Xpedo.

Don't use the R8100P. Anything but this. Shimano produced a heap of flaming garbage. They should not be rewarded in any way. It's not that the thing is consistently inconsistent - it is just straight up inconsistent.

I've had the single sided SPD version of the Garmin Rally pedals for about 2 years now and they've been great. Have owned power meters for over 15 years, starting with PowerTap, then Quarq, now these. I think these have been the most reliable so far. Can't speak specifically to the SPD-SL version, but since you can swap pedal bodies to turn SPD into SPD-SL, there's no difference.

For my DA 9200 setup, I’m considering 4iiii 3+ dual sided (added advantage of Apple’s Find My integrated) or Look’s new keo power pedals which are lighter and Lookier than the Faveros.

The Assioma Duo Shi are dead reliable by virtually all accounts including mine. The increased Q factor isn't a reliability issue but could certainly present fit problems.

There's a magene in the classifieds right now if you use 165mm cranks. I'm kinda tempted by it honestly!

I've had good luck with both stages and 4iiii. There are rechargeable ones available that I've really liked. I run one on my main road bike and use a coin battery one on my gravel bike.

The Magene has nice specs and good price but not sure of the aesthetics. Hmmm. My recent bike fit recommended 165 cranks too.

Honestly, at the price it's selling for in the classifieds, I'd just buy it to test out both the PM and the 165mm cranks. Fits right into a shimano BB as well.

If you like the length, you can always put it on a backup bike or sell it when you find something you like more.

I think if you use the Magene with Shimano chainrings they look pretty good.

You can find them on eBay for under $300. If I was in the market today, I can't imagine buying any other power meter for a Shimano bike.
