Appreciate all the help, but I’ve decided to move to a different groupset. If it still makes noise then, well, the jokes on me.

Hard to say without a video or a test ride but as described (click rather than creak) it could be, as Old P says, a chain link - I'd look at the joining link (if used) and at the rivet (if joined that way - From the "back" of the chain towards the front when riveted, plus peened to centre the rivet and "squash" the "snapped off" end so that it catches neither the RD cage nor the cassette.

Apart from that, all of the usual checks ... to ID the point of the "click" as definitely chain / transmission related.

Cassette torques really only need to go over the recommended if creaking is persistent but TBH, if the cassette has both the "grey" internal spacer and (in the case of the 9-up cassettes) the thin stainless washer between the head of the lockring and the sprocket itself, the marked torque should be sufficient if the cassette body is accurately within spec.

A short errand today in sandals (almost no power output) finally helped isolate the sound. It’s coming from the cranks or bottom bracket and not the cassette or rear derailleur setup.

Of course it requires a special tool to install the crank so I can’t do much…I won’t miss this group

I think it should just be a long 10mm Allen key. Who installed the groupset?

It is that which I don’t have or the campy tool they made just for it. I bought it complete online so no idea. Axs is being installed today so no longer an issue

Calling it a campy tool is a misnomer, it's just a long 10mm hex key.

Sure, there is a Campy tool for the purpose, but searching "long 10mm hex socket" will also turn up an abundance of options. (The majority of which, curiously, are more expensive than the one you showed.)

That little thing you use to preload a shimano crank is a special tool. How many rides did you get on the bike?

Rode it daily, almost, since I got it almost exactly a month ago. I had no intentions of swapping groups as this bike was a travel solution for the summer. I really like to try new gear and have been happy on previous Campagnolo setups in the past on the road.

But i think it is bad enough i don’t want to use it for even that long. It’s mostly the hoods (comfort and fit) and the thumb shifter when completely on them.

It’s hard to say how much the bar is impacting the fit of the hoods, but since they were integrated I didn’t want to deal with swapping and bleeding the brakes just to hope the zipp xplr bar I prefer would work better. Easier to spend 500 or so (I have some of the axs kit and plan to sell the ekar) to move to AXS which I thoroughly enjoyed the last few years on my stigmata.

i used this very special bad boy:



all of 2,44$ at McMaster-Carr. Darn Campagnolo, expensive special tooling for everything!!1!

That looks very unique. Campagnolo should include that with their cranks.

Yeah would be nice on the other hand I never got a 5 Allen wrench from Shimano either. Got one from Syntace.
