Top tube dent - fatal?
I got an all city zig zag delivered yesterday and the top tube took an impact. Seems like the shop that.packed it decided paperboard was sufficient packing material. With it being a steel frame, what are thoughts on how bad this is? A coworker has been looking for an inexpensive commuter and if bikeflights pays out I may let him have it for parts value.
I will add different angle pictures this evening, but for now: https://photos.app.goo.gl/kYoagfmjVyV9ZfEG7 Last edited by Novasfyre; 04-25-2024 at 12:12 PM. Reason: Editing link |

That's fine. Ride it worry free for the next million miles.
Oh, and tell the aspiring artist: "Nice work!"

I might take that to an auto "scratch and dent" guy. They can do some amazing things.

Still hoping BF pays out since dents make the bike worthless to anyone but unredeemable enthusiasts. |

I think that'll ride fine and likely last forever. I do think the monetary value of that frame is about $0 now though.

Yeah, nice whiskey fork, selle anatomica seat, and wolftooth headset are the only valuable parts on the bike since the seller had the weirdest build. Apax cable rear, rival hydro front, fulcrum rr5 wheelset. I figure I could harvest it for maybe 300 bucks or just sell it to the coworker whose been asking me for a "nice bike" for 300 or less.

In the category of "No way that works (but it does)", along with geosynchronous satellites.

Is this a new frame the shop sent? I’d just send it back.
I’m 99% sure there is no structural issue and no danger of catastrophic failure. ….but life is too stinking short to ride questionable bikes. |

No, used bike from pinkbike. Bikeflights insured at least.

Bummer, but it's rideable! I had this show up yesterday! Total bummer as there is no fixing the monster crack!

I would totally send the All City back since you just paid for it and it wasn't listed as dented.
But that said.. I'm pretty sure after the apocalypse Keith Richards will be riding an All City. Those frames are really built to take abuse. High weight ratings and the ED coatings seem to be incredibly tough. I would actually like it if my Space horse somehow gave up the ghost so I could justify replacing it with something nicer. But I think I could probably run it over with my Subaru and it would survive. I have basically rode mine every winter, sometimes put it away wet and covered in road salt blah blah blah. It's going to be 12 years old soon and it almost still looks brand new. Absolutely zero rust and it has never had frame saver or anything done to it. |
