Serotta Legend ST model, what year?
Picked up this one from fellow Paceline member, and am wondering what year it was made. Yes, I've got the serial number magic decoding list, but it doesn't address this issue.
Serial# CLS 58 1033 Legend ST (carbon seat stay) (Note that the "C" denotes "Custom" and is not part of the date determination) Are all the Legends numbered within the same trailing digits? Or are the LS series seperate? The Legend prefixes I've found are: LS- Titanium Legend with carbon seat stays, ST model(?) LE - Legend Ti GS tubing SE -Legend, confusion between ST and SE, not sure if SE Legend prefix exists, or if it is simply a sub-model of LS series. TI - Legend Ti, but also earlier Colorado Ti So far I've found these numbers online, but am not sure they are correct, in fact almost sure they can't be (note the trailing numbers VS dates) CLS 55 0972 = 2008 model, CLS 54 720 Poster stated: "I'm pretty sure it is from 2012-2013. The NY plant closed in the summer of 2013." LS XI 548 = 2011 (Could it be "LS X1"? Fork serial number: C LS X100548), CLS 52 339 = 2012??? Serotta Legend + CSI....Nirvana! |

My guess is around 2008-2010, but I could be wrong. Custom 58 ST model.

What is your estimate based on? I can't find any post 2010 Serotta catalogs, thus can't compare pics.

I guess the good news is the Legend appears to fit you slightly better than the CSI.

Thought it was too long by a tad, but after Specialized riser bars and fiddling that made all the difference. Still getting to know the Legend, and just put a setback seatpost in (original is straight and I run Brooks short rail saddles), and put a riser stem on (11 or 17 degrees?). Oh, and yesterday at the co-op (I needed their 14mm allen) I installed a 10 speed 50/34 crankset (Power Torque), and today put my Ultegra 11 speed wheel on from another bike, 11-36 cassette, in attempt to get lower gearing. I blocked out the high limit so it can't get to the 36t, and is j-u-s-t 'street legal' at the 32t. Temporary fix while I sort out which longer cage rear D to get for a perm fix, and I will watch cross chaining. Have not taken it for a ride today, so will 'report back' to all those who wait anxiously on my comfort! |

(CLS 55 0972 = 2008 model,) This could be accurate. The Legend ST was introduced for the 2003 model year but it's hard to guess how many were built each year.
(CLS 54 720 Poster stated: "I'm pretty sure it is from 2012-2013. The NY plant closed in the summer of 2013.") I would say this bike is at least 5 years older. (LS XI 548 = 2011 (Could it be "LS X1"? Fork serial number: C LS X100548),) I believe this is correct. X=2010 XI=2011 (CLS 52 339 = 2012???) I would guess this one dates from 2004-5. The OP's bike doesn't give much for clues as it lacks decals and paint. My guess based partly on the 0972 frame having an accurate date would be 2008-9 for the OP's frame. |

I agree that it’s hard to tell. Agree that the 3-D dropouts and machined headtube mean that it’s not an early model. One detail that might help is how the bottom bracket is machined. At some point I recall Scott Hock mentioning that the bottom brackets of Legends and Ottrotts got progressively more machined over the course of the mid- to late-2000s, but around 2010 or so backed off on the machining. Not a lot to go on.

Those look like they are both mid- to late-2000s, or maybe as late as 2010. Serotta stopped machining bottom brackets that aggressively in 2010 or 2011. My recollection was that the weight savings didn’t justify the time and labor involved.

The machined BB shell and head tube first appeared on the 2005 frames, so that leaves the OP's frame in the 2005-2009 range. |
