11-speed eTap compatibility

I've searched but I can't find the answer in a single post, so I am asking here. Flame away if it irritates you.

11 speed original eTap is not compatible with anything but 11 speed eTap, right?

For example, if I have a complete 11-speed eTap group, except a front derailleur....the only thing I can do is find an 11-speed eTap front derailleur (which are going for about $700 on eBay.)

Right?

Right.

I remember when AXS first came out and I complained on here about the lack of backward compatibility some dumba$$ said "oh wow, now your group is worthless".

Well, if your 11 speed front derailleur craps out, now your group is worthless.

And it was exactly this scenario I was thinking of.

The only bit of backward compatibility SRAM has offered is a rear derailleur. That's why front derailleurs are $$$ on eBay.

you can also set the 12 speed shifters - red & I believe force (but I'm not 100% on force) to work with 11 speed derailleurs.

Now is a good time to move on to 12 speed, with partial force groups selling for $900 instead of $1500. It won't be long until Red parts are also on clearance. My force parts have been flawless for over 3 years.

I too have 11 speed Red eTap. The funny things is while I have a spare new front derailleur NIB, and rear, I never shift thew front derailleur I ride in the 53 no matter what. I’m almost comfortable selling it. If the offer was right I just might.
