In fairness, can we distinguish between pedal-assisted ebikes and throttled ebikes, please?
When someone says ebike = scourge of the earth, the distinction is important. As someone said, that's a motorcycle. OP: Glad it turned out OK. |

Sweet e-bike. You can get a pedal kit to make it technically legal but no one does. They are very popular. A lot do supermoto conversions for the street. |

In my parts, 40mph electric scooters (the ones with the little wheels) are now in heavy use on the local recreational trail.
I was surprised first time one zipped past at top speed. Dino that I am, I didn’t know they were a thing. (And I wondered who in the world thought making them was a good idea. I yell at clouds, too).

Not an 'e-bike'....any more than a ICE, 100cc motorcycle is a 'gas-bike'....it's an electric motorcycle.

Yikes. All the other pros and cons of e-things notwithstanding, those speeds on the typical "kick scooter" solid, small wheels sounds appallingly dangerous for the rider.

I should not have assumed they were the same as the original kick scooters. Edit: Still don't look terribly safe, however. IMHO.

I have never seen an electric kick scooter around here, what happened to all the scooter share companies? One of the mechanics at the LBS commuted on an electric skateboard that could get going pretty fast.

ebikes are a non-issue around LA
I see a group meetup every once in a while sunday mornings- all different kinds - mostly sur rons, Onyx rcr's and Super 73s by far, the most common ebikes I see are hybrids that casual cyclists use. Very happy to see. I've seen a lot of one-wheels, e-skateboards and escooters that arguably are far more dangerous because of the age of the people using them and the style of riding and proximity to pedestrians. |
