1983 Specialized Sequoia
August 2018, while browsing CL, I came upon a listing for a Specialized Sequoia; the guy wanted $250 for it. There was this guy in Beaverton, OR,
who had put me onto the listing. Told Andy I would give him $100 for shipping/packing if he could get the bike for $200; sent him $300 for the deal. I received the frameset in a week. Andy must have used all the ties in Oregon to secure the foam and wrapping. Andy did a great job. The Sequioa:T-mar (of Bikeforums): The S/N indicates it was manufactured very early in January 1983 (55th frame of the year) by Miki Seisakusho of Japan. Miki was a known SBI (Specialized Bicycle Components, Inc.) source so that is almost certainly the manufacturer and the presence of a Made in Japan sticker would be confirmation. (Some of T-mar's basic info was tweeked from other sources.) The sticker was present on the BB. The bike was made during Japan's glory days - before the 1990s recession and currency devaluation. Among a few other things for my Crockett, I picked up a new set of TA's from Big The Robert Axle Project. They hooked me up with some light, slim through axles. Bonus bonus for the off white color matching.

They are nice! Customer service was awesome. Shoot them a quick email with your bike and they will send the correct links over since their website is under construction--the correct axles can be hard to find.

Picked up a pre-loved but not abused set of DA7850 C24-TU's. I have wanted a set of these since I first saw Lars Boom (in the Rabobank days) ride them in the spring classic's, and love these flashy silver hubs.

I just bought a small assortment of M6 hex bolts in various lengths, because inexplicably the fender mount at the top rear of the fork requires a different sized bolt from all the other (M5) fender mounts on my CAADX!
Da hell?!?! |

Interesting. I just installed a set of Handsome Mud Butler fenders on my bike last night and found that that hex bolts supplied for the rear only work if your brake bridge is threaded? I've never heard of a brake bridge being threaded. So now I need to find a long enough hex bolt with nut to make this work. Sad it probably wont be black like the rest of the hardware.

Two of these for my track training clinchers because no one makes a narrow clincher that will fit under my track bike fork anymore. Tired of all the fat stuff already, everybody doesn't always ride gravel!
