Colnago project
First post. Let me know what you guys think!
Found a Colnago Super 91 for sale locally. Currently equipped with a mixed Ultegra 10sp group: new 11sp cranks, older 10sp shifters and derailleurs, SRAM brakes. Parts bin job on the stem/bars situation. The seatpost and saddle combos is nice. Easton wheels. Pics attached. Plans are to go with Campy Chorus 11sp (if you have a group you wanna sell, PM me) and go all flat black/carbon with the components. Your design thoughts/direction are appreciated. I think a silver groupset would go nicely with the chrome fork and lugs. Silver seat post - Campy aero post for bonus points. You will be limited to Potenza or the less common Athena for Campy 11 speed in silver. I'm also partial to a quill stem, especially with a chrome fork.
Frameset looks to be in great shape! |

Any Colnago that gets used is beautiful. Make it yours, and pile the miles!

And I agree, I think a quill stem will be the better way to go. Took the stem off last night just to see what was going on there. Stem on it now is 130mm. I think I should go with something like 110/120.

Quill is the way to go... second thing... maybe swap that headset for a campagnolo or a dura ace due to stack height?

I would suggest trying a quill stem before swapping out the headset. A quill will immediately drop the bars a bunch, so unless you know your ideal fit (or at least seat to bars, bars to ground, center of BB to saddle top), better to take things one step at a time.

Looks like a Super frame I sold on EBay about a year ago (same saddle, Cinelli post)...to a guy in NJ, I think...anyway it was a great bike, NOS to me from a shop in Spain...
Whether it is or not, Good Luck with it..they're a great ride!! |

Thanks. There are, and they continue just past the top nut when it's on.

That doesn't sound right. The locknut should completely shroud the steerer-tube threads (you never want exposed steel on the wrong side of the locknut).

I didn't say that accurately. There are threads unused in the top nut. That is, the threaded tube ends, and there are still threads continuing in the top nut.
