Disc brakes on road bikes

I hate disc brake squealing on my mtb. Maintenance of disc is such a pain compared to rim brakes.

It seems to me that once hydro discs for thee road are developed a bt more they will be hard to beat.

One of the biggest advantages (in my very limited understanding of the subject) is that it will help carbon rims get lighter and more durable... not to mention I love the idea of being able to buy a set of wheels that only need a disc replacement after a winter of grimy-rain riding and not a whole rim.

May be interesting to watch because they are pros, but it won't tell you as much as having your buddy Joe ride down the same mountain.

Not only do most pros not weigh as much, they also don't use their brakes as much as the average cyclist.

If you want to see whether disc brakes hold up under extreme heat, don't look at pros as an indication.

I just picked up a 2014 Specialized Crux Expert that has the new Red Disc brakes. I've put road tires on and have done a few group rides on it. My opinion is that they'll be great for dirt road rides, riding in the mountains with serious decending, CX, etc. For general road riding/blasting around the countryside doing group rides, etc. There is no benefit to them.
