Had a great ride this past Saturday . . .

. . . up in the Adirondacks out of Wilmington, just over the hill (if you can call Whiteface a "hill") from Lake Placid.

We rode from the very nice little town park at Lake Everest. My friends Doug, Tom and I rode the 43 mile Ride for the River route that included miles and miles of stunning Adirondack scenery. R4tR is a fundraiser for the Ausable River association, which is a non-profit that works to protect the river environment and watershed.

We had a few of what Doug called "decently stout" climbs (translation: 11-12%), encountered some (maybe) Olympic athletes out training, rode across the covered bridge in Jay, and even saw a moose! (Well, kind of . . . )

If you're looking for a great place to get away--and help the Ausable River Association with their fundraiser during this lean covid year, the virtual Ride for the River goes on all of this week. It's well worth a road trip to Lake Placid. You can get more info HERE.

Spectacular views make the climb worth it. I got my ride in early before the heat and tourists

In ABQ, the weather was cool and cloudy and threatened rain all morning which was a perfect time to do this ride.

Highest point was 8650 feet.

Banged out a 200+ km ride today (126 miles) with a brief run into MA.

Blackberries were at mile 118. Yes, I ate every single ripe berry in this picture before finishing.

Talking

My first trip to the top of Baldy today up Mt Baldy Road. Pretty savage climb actually. Much harder than it’s often compared to Alp d’Huez IMO. Maybe I was just much fitter the last time I rode the Alp

GMR on the way back down was great, too!
